My friend have an old VAIO (the label at the lower right corner is PCG-K25, the sticker on the bottom is PCG-9RFL). I want to restore it back to factory image but I lost the recovery CDs.Does any one know how can I create the recovery disc or boot to load factory image. The drive has 3 non-NTFS partitions: 1 is EISA (5GB in size, 34% free), 2 are unknown partitions (6.8GB, 100% free? And 330MB, 100% free?). In Disk Management, the EISA is on the leftmost portion, then the C:, then the 2 unknown partitions, the last is the D partition. I don't know why it likes that and plan to remove the 2 unknown partitions and merge them into the C since C has only 26% free.Since it has an EISA partition, I believe there is a factory image but don't know how the restore it.

Thanks for your advice. Just want to update the final situation. As I said that I can open the restore page by pressing F10 but I did not proceed because I had not moved the data files at that time. After moving the required files, I went to Control Panel, double click the Recovery Wizard.

There are 2 options on the opening page: Create Recovery Disc - I did that and created 1 CD and 1 DVD. Then I ran this wizard again. This time I ran the System Recovery and select recover C: drive. The process following this clicking is just like installing Windows, device drivers and software. The C: is now re-formatted and the system is running fine. After the computer was restored to factory image, my friend wants to upgrade it to 1GB. So we bought 2 x 512MB Corsair VS512SD333.

The Corsair web site states that VS512SDS266 is compatible to the Sony but not mention about the DS333. Unfortunately, DS266 is not available and we thought the computer will automatically adjust to run the module at 266 as they seem to be the same series.Installing the memory and booting up, we only see 480MB (32MB was set aside for the video). Go in the BIOS, we also see 480. Take away 1 module, we can only see 214MB.Both the old and new modules are double sided. The chips on the Corsair are 64M8BDCG.Is there anyway to make the computer to see all the memory?

Sony does not have the BIOS update for download. I wrote to Corsair and Sony tech support. Sony replied very quickly. They suggest me to send the VAIO to their service station for servicing (I will be charged for the service fee). They also suggest me to insert the memory modules one by one into different slots and check the detected RAM size from the BIOS.

I loaded defaults before I did the test. 64MB is then set for the video memory. The detected memory in also steps showed 256MB-64MB for 1 module and 512MB-64MB for 2 modules.Corsair just replied and confirmed that only the 266Mhz version module which use low density chips can be detected with correct RAM size. With this info, I won't send the VAIO to service shop and don't know whether I can return the modules to the retail shop in exchange for the compatible one.
